100 years at The Dillard House - Dillard House turns 100: A Celebration - Just Peachy Keen with the Peachy Queen

It’s a Centennial!

You know the drill. According to the FTC, I have to let you know that this is a Sponsored post. I may have received items or services in exchange for this article. All opinions are my own.

I recently was invited to attend a media event in the lovely Northeast Georgia mountains, wherein we previewed a year’s worth of celebrations for the historic Dillard House in Rabun County, Georgia.

If you know the area, you know how wonderful it is, as well as having some knowledge of The Dillard House, even if you have never been there. If you don’t know either, sit back and let me tell you a tale of Georgia History.

Way back in 1794, Captain John Dillard was awarded 1000 acres in a beautiful valley in the northeast Georgia mountains for his service in the American Revolution. He traded with the Cherokee and made a home there in the valley. The Dillard family maintained that homeland for another 123 years, and then something happened in 1917.

Mrs. Carrie Dillard opened a bed & breakfast.

Originally just 6 rooms in a section called The Rock House, now The Dillard House is a modern hotel with rooms, suites, cottages and chalets. There is a conference hall (where my husband and I have attended many a Trout Unlimited annual dinner and silent auction), but there are also stables and ponds and mountain views and frogs croaking at night. Wide porches, rocking chairs. The Dillard House is a quintessential Southern landmark.

Southern Hospitality at its very finest

The setting is beautiful and the food is sublime! If there was one thing Carrie Dillard knew, it was Southern hospitality and good food. Okay, that’s two things, but if you are a Southerner, you know those two things go hand in hand. Carrie Dillard knew that and taught it to her family. They continue that legacy even today.

This is breakfast for 1?!

The rooms are all spacious and nicely appointed, the common areas invite you to ‘sit a spell’ and the staff are all eager to welcome you and address any needs you may have. But then, there’s the food. THE FOOD!!! Meals at The Dillard House are an event! Served family-style with more dishes of food than the table can nearly hold, if you leave the table here still hungry, you didn’t do it right! For events, their catering department is top notch and as I type this, my plate of deliciousness from our lunch comes to mind. Like Pavlov’s dog, my mouth is watering at just the thought! Mmmm…gimme some of that fried chicken!

Colorful, fresh & delicious! You can’t go wrong with The Dillard House’s catering team.

100 Years, a Celebration

In recognition of this anniversary of 100 years of Dillard House history, they have come up with some amazing events, the first one beginning soon! From the Mystery Dinner Theater, to Wine Tastings and Comedy Shows, A Craft Beer tasting and dinner, a day of Junkin’ with Author Mary Kay Andrews and even a Total Eclipse Extravaganza! Did you know there was a solar eclipse this year? Me either! But there is and the East Coast is perfect viewing, and Rabun County happens to be sitting in the centerline of the path of totality. What does that mean? I don’t know other than the view from here will be INCREDIBLE!

They have so many events planned this year, but you don’t need an event to stay at The Dillard House and enjoy all that Rabun County and the surrounding areas have to offer. With all the amenities you’d find in a city hotel, but with the peace and quiet of the North Georgia mountains, escaping to Dillard is perfect any time of the year. Located in a prime spot to use as base while you explore the area, The Dillard House invites you to come taste their version of Southern goodness. And to that end, I have codes! Want to attend an event and save some money? Look no further!
