If you give a mom a season
She’ll have to decorate for it.

She’ll start with new items from At Home
To go on the mantle.
After she sees the mantle all pretty,
She’ll look to the rest of the house
And see it needs some attention, too.

She’ll need to get in the attic
And pull all the boxes down.
She’ll probably yell at you to help her.

Once those boxes are down and in the way,
She’ll have to pack up all year round home décor
To make room for the seasonal.

She’ll have to find boxes to store the items in
And end up at Target for more plastic bins.

While at Target,
She’ll find new seasonal décor,
And totally change her design plan.

For the new design plan,
She’ll go to four more stores
Looking for that perfect accompaniment.

At the last store she finds a lamp on sale
Totally not what she was looking for,
But in the exact style she had been wanting for a while.
She takes the lamp and other purchases home.

When she gets home,
She has to clean the area the lamp is going in.
Cleaning that area means she may as well put some stuff away,
So out come the plastic totes.

With everything put away, now she puts together the lamp.
The new lamp needs the whole area freshened up, so out comes the vacuum, wood polish and more.
Once the refresh is done, now she can decorate the lamp area.

Decorating that area leads to the next.
But she’s out of stuff so to the boxes from the attic she goes.
The boxes are a mess!
Who put this stuff up last year?
Oh, that was she herself (because everyone disappears when that time comes).
She makes mental note to buy more plastic totes on the next Target run.
And then promptly forgets it.

Grabbing one box, she sees some of her favorite seasonal décor.
It has it’s own place so off she goes to decorate that.
And put away everything occupying the area currently.
And clean, dust, vacuum the area around it.
Then she can unpack the boxes and put out the seasonal fun.

It takes her forever to get it ‘just right.’
But when it is done, she looks past to the area she skipped.
So back to the boxes.
And the process begins again.

Until someone is hungry.
Then she has to feed them.
Feeding them messes up the kitchen.
She tells the teenager to clean the kitchen.
The teenager doesn’t listen.
Because the teenager has decided to take her sister’s old room
And turned the upstairs into a moving nightmare.

After begrudgingly helping the teen move furniture she didn’t have on her agenda,
She can get back to her boxes.
Where it is put away, clean and unpack yet again.
Until she is worn out and falls into bed
with visions of attic stairs dancing in her head.

The next morning,
Ready to begin again.
As she sips her coffee,
she looks around at most everything newly decorated,
now so neat and clean.
Ready for a new season.
Until she looks up and sees a dirty ceiling fan.
She puts down her coffee
And gets up to grab the ladder…
