Blueberry Peach Slushies

It’s summer time and the livin’ is easy!

Okay, Ella Fitzgerald we ain’t but some things are easy, like these delicious Blueberry Peach Slushies – the perfect treat for a hot summer day!

The Peach…err..Blueberry State?

Many know that Georgia is commonly referred to as The Peach State, but did you know that Georgia is now also the Blueberry State? That’s right, blueberries! With close to 95 million pounds of blueberries produced each year, Georgia is at the top of blueberry producers in the United States, only second behind Washington State. Georgia farmers became serious about blueberry production in the 80s and since then, production has risen dramatically with over 20,000 acres of this crop growing throughout the state.

Having worked with the Georgia Agritourism Board several times over the past few years (you can read more about some of that HERE), I am always happy to help promote Georgian grown crops, but even if you aren’t in the great ‘Capital of the South’ you can find blueberries and peaches at your local market to make your own delicious Blueberry Peach Slushies.

Using fresh peaches, blueberries and lots of ice, this is a super easy treat to whip up for your family and friends, and you will be the hit at the pool when you pull these Blueberry Peach Slushies out of the cooler!

Blueberry Peach Slushie

A delicious and refreshing summer treat! Easy to make, even easier to enjoy!

Ingredients

• 1 pt fresh blueberries
• 2 C chopped peaches (about 4 medium peaches)
• ½ C white sugar
• ½ C water
• 5 C ice

Instructions

1. Make simple syrup by adding sugar and water to a small pot.
2. Once it begins to boil, stir, shut off and let it sit until cooled.
3. Peel and chop peaches.
4. Wash the blueberries.
5. Add peaches, half the simple syrup, and half the ice to a blender.
6. Blend on high for 20-30 seconds.
7. In a clean blender, add the blueberries, the remaining simple syrup, and remaining ice.
8. Blend on high for 30-45 seconds. (Blending the blueberries longer than the peaches ensures the skins get blended.)
9. Serve immediately.
10. *Add more or less ice to get the desired slushy consistency you like!

Notes

Looking for a little 'adult' oomph to your slushie? Add in your favorite wine or spirit and enjoy!
