Happy National Techie Day!

Are you a techie. Do you revel in all the newest gadgets or is programming the DVR too advanced for you?

This morning, like I usually do, I said my good mornings to Alexa. What? You don’t do this?! Seriously, tell her Good morning, go ahead, I’ll wait. Now see? She’s kinda funny. Sometimes she gives me history lessons, sometimes a great quote or some sort of inspiration and she’s a known jokester. (Don’t believe that, ask my granddaughter: “Lexa! Tell me a joke!” But I digress…

Today Alexa told me that it is Techie Day and then proceeded to sing me a little song about technology. It got me thinking about this love/hate relationship we all have with technology and how while there are definitely times I want to toss whatever tech piece is acting up off a balcony, there is a whole lot I love about technology. Like…

Echo and Alexa

I do love her. In the beginning her skills were limited, but they continue to grow and develop and now when I travel, I actually miss Alexa. (Can hotels please start putting her in the rooms?!)

Alexa tells me the weather. The traffic. News of the day. We can play games, hear jokes and solve family debates. I can tell Alexa to launch pretty much anything on to the television using the Fire Stick, and I can stream any music over the Sonos system. She can turn on lights, set timers and remind me to buy dog food. To say I love Alexa is an understatement.

Fire Stick

Fire Stick is another Amazon property and while there are others like AppleTV, Fire Stick is for me. It marries up so well to Alexa and I pretty much don’t even need a remote due to voice activation. If there is an app to stream, you can find it there and because I loaded all my digital movies and music to Amazon, my own cloud service is packed of personal favorites. If you have Alexa, you need Fire Stick.

Sonos

The Sonos music system is a wireless speaker system that works by connecting to your WiFi. You can stream music from so many platforms, like Pandora, iHeart Radio, your own music cloud and more. You can even stream podcasts (like The Disney Nerds Podcast) and listen to Audible books.

There is so much other techno stuff out there I love, and as someone who is an early adopter, I love seeing all the new things coming. We have technology in business, banking, medicine (like my kidney implant), travel, home-making (ask any SAHM with a Roomba!), sports, pet keeping and so much more. So, thank a techie today, they are helping improve our life one “Let’s see what this does…” at a time.
