I’m bored!

The Escape Game Atlanta - Something new to do when you've done it all!

Pin me for later!

So you’ve heard it a million times. It usually goes something like this:

“Let’s do something tonight.”

“Okay, what do you want to do?”

“I don’t know. It feels like we’ve done it all. What is there new around here for us to have fun doing?”

Well, look no further because I have the something new to do right here in Atlanta for you and your friends and/or family to do TONIGHT!

The Escape Game Atlanta

You’ve probably heard of escape rooms in social media or from a co-worker, but you are wondering: What is that? Do you really have to escape something? And you may even be thinking to yourself: “Hey, I’m no Houdini!” Maybe your plus 1 says something to the effect of ‘remember my claustrophobia? I can’t do anything trapped in an elevator!”

Well no worries there, my friends! The Escape Game is a fantastic way to do something new and totally different than the old going-out routines, and the only anxiety you are going to feel is the time limit to ‘escape.’

The Escape Game Atlanta is located in The Battery Atlanta, which is the location of Suntrust Park, and the home of the Atlanta Braves baseball team, but beyond the ballpark, you will find all kinds of entertainment, food and even living choices at The Battery Atlanta.

What is The Escape Game Atlanta?

The Escape Game Atlanta is an adventure, a story and a tactile hands-on experience all rolled into one. It is great for date night, girls’ night out, a family adventure and even team building among your employees.

The goal is to step foot into a real adventure, and before the clock hits zero, you and your team need to solve the puzzle in order to ‘escape’ the room.  The experience is completely immersive, requiring use of all your senses, and some good old-fashioned team work.

How do you play?

Our Game Host

First, you pick your time to play as well as the room, or theme. At the Escape Game Atlanta, there are 5 rooms to choose from, Gold Rush, The Heist, Special Ops: Mysterious Market, Prison Break, and Playground.  Because reservations are recommended, you will have picked your theme and paid your fees all before arriving so when you do arrive, the only thing to do is PLAY!

Once you arrive and check in, you sign a hold harmless waiver and then you and your team are escorted into the room and given some basic instructions. If you haven’t booked the entire room, you may play with others who are also scheduled for that time and room. Don’t worry about that though, everyone is on the same team and you may leave with new friends after you all escape!

Once your game host leaves you and heads to the control room (where they are able to watch your game play and provide help when needed), it is time to let the games begin!

Okay, so it isn’t really like the Hunger Games, but it is challenging and there is a time limit of 60 minutes. During that time you are assigned a task, or many, that you must complete to get to the next level. In our game, there were 3 levels that we needed to complete to escape.

As I was with a group from the Association of Bloggers (Georgia Chapter), we had enough people to split into two teams. One team went with Gold Rush, and my team went with Special Ops: Mysterious Market.

Now I have to say, Special Ops was right up my alley! It was the more challenging of the rooms we were able to pick from and it transported us to the middle of another country, with a challenge steeped in espionage. There were twists and turns and moments where we were begging for a clue (you get 3 clues to help you along, but the screens in the rooms often provided hints or tips, especially if the game host sees you are on the right track to something but just missing it slightly).

My team really worked well together and had some great bonding moments solving puzzles, finding tools or instruments needed, or deciphering clues. (Hello math!!) There was a lot of laughter and a serious feeling of accomplishment when we made it to the end, saved the world and escaped the room! I totally can’t wait to come back with my family and do it again, I know we will have a great time!

You’ve got questions? I have answers!

Are you really locked in with no way out?

Well yes. And no. If you or someone in your group freaks out, there is an emergency exit button you can push that will allow you to escape earlier than the 60 minute time limit. But listen, I have a tendency to get a little anxious in certain situations and not once did I feel like I needed to bail out of the game. I loved the puzzles, the quest, the journey. I was so occupied during the time we were playing, I never once thought I wouldn’t get out or I would be locked in a room forever. Trust me, you will not be in that room forever. If you and your team just can’t escape., the game host will be sure to get you out. I mean, of course they will! They want to have the room for the next group!

Can everyone play?

While there isn’t really an age limit, it is suggested for ages 13 and up as some of the challenges may be too difficult for those under 13. All youth under 14 must play with an adult aged 18 and over, and a waiver must be signed by their adult accompaniment.  There are also accomodations for those in a wheelchair, be sure to call to arrange which room would be the best for that.

Is there food?

No food or drink can be brought into The Escape Game Atlanta, but at The Battery, the food choices are endless. You can make a total event out of your experiences by eating at one of The Battery’s many restaurants before or after your game. I suggest Live! At the Battery: Sports & Social Tavern where we were treated to a fantastic sampling of appetizers before our games began. With a great atmosphere, yummy drinks and top notch service, you can;t go wrong when you spend some time at Sports & Social Tavern.
